How WRs Use the Fast Vertical Stem Weapon to Create Game-Changing Plays · Glazier Clinics

What it is

Princeton WR coach Brian Flinn teaches the fast vertical stem—attacking vertically at full speed to move defenders away from the actual route break point.

Why it's great

Most stem videos show mechanics; Flinn explains the defender manipulation strategy that makes it work. He details how attacking the inside shoulder helps the DB while maximum vertical speed forces them away from your actual target, creating separation before the break.

How to use it in practice

Teach the concept first: vertical speed moves the defender's leverage. Demo with a DB—show how stemming inside helps them, then contrast with full vertical attack. Drill from the top of routes: receivers sprint vertical, break at depth, coach corrects any deceleration or early telegraph.
